IN THE MID 50s TWO WORLD WAR II VETERANS, AT KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE DECIDED TO GO AND TAKE OVER MINISTERING TO THE MASHOKO AREA OF RHODESIA, AFRICA FROM NEW ZEALANDERS. THEY WERE THE PEMBERTONS AND THE PRUETTS.
PEMBERTONS WERE TO MINISTER THROUGH SCHOOLS.
PRUETTS WERE TO MINISTER THROUGH HOSPITALS = MEDICAL EVANGELISM.
Dr. Pruett once said of Medical evangelism: “Medical evangelism is the best way in the world to put Christian ideals into action. You SEE with your eyes, and TOUCH with your hands, and FEEL with your heart the LOVE Christ had for people when he helped them. THIS is made more wonderful when you see the appreciation from a people who now understand that THE LOVE THAT GOD HAD FOR ALL PEOPLE IS MANIFESTED IN HIS SERVANTS.”
ONE OF THE DOCTORS WHO CAME TO WORK AT MASHOKO WAS DAVID ALLEN GRUBBS.
- HE PICKED UP A YOUNG MAN CALLED ZINDOGA BUNGU AND SENT HIM TO THE USA TO STUDY TO BE INVOLVED IN MEDICAL EVANGELISM IN ZIMBABWE.

- Patient is admitted in the hospital for AIDS related illness.

- Taken home in car by HBC Program team.
- Followed up monthly by team of Preacher, Nurse, Counselor, and Driver.
- Preaching to him/her, relatives and neighbors.

VVF SURGERIES AS PART OF OUR MINISTRY
- Camps x 3 per year.
- Each camp runs for 2 weeks.
- Around 50 clients come but usually an average of 36 to 40 clients are operated on per camp.
- Each of the operated clients stays 3 weeks in the hospital for healing and will be taught the Gospel everyday.
- Main reason for development of fistuli are early marriage as dictated to by indigenous Church leaders leaders, and avoidance of Hospital delivery as dictated to by indigenous Church leaders.
Ministry advantages from VVF surgeries
- 3 weeks of sharing the Gospel with people who are disappointed by decisions of their Church leaders.
- Less expenses in reaching these women with the Gospel.
- Good chances for Church planting.
